Mississippi Ethics Commission Director Tom Hood addressed a tertiary issue in a statement provided to the Clarion Ledger in March stating, “An elected official would violate the ethics law if he used his position to obtain or attempt to obtain a monetary benefit for a person or business from which the official derived more than $2,500 in annual income. If the income were received indirectly through converting campaign money, the official could still be in violation of the ethics law.”
