They will be joined by Republican Sam Britton of Laurel, who takes over from Phil Bryant appointee Steve Renfroe of Moss Point. While Renfroe declined to publicly identify himself with a party, he supported Posey as the commission’s chairman.

Gov. Phil Bryant today announced his decision to appoint Steve Renfroe, a lifelong resident of Moss Point, to serve as Southern District Public Service Commissioner. Renfroe will fill the unexpired term of Leonard Bentz, who resigned Aug. 19, 2013.

Steve Renfroe was appointed Southern District Public Service Commissioner by Governor Phil Bryant on September 10, 2013. A ninth-generation Mississippian, Steve is a lifelong resident of Moss Point and a graduate of Mississippi College with a degree in Mathematics. Steve retired from Chevron in 2011 after a 35 year career, which included 10 years as an environmental specialist and over 20 years managing public and government affairs in Mississippi. Steve also has a long list of volunteer accomplishments, including chairman of the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service, chairman of the United Way of Jackson and George Counties, and Chairman of Excel By 5, an early childhood initiative he and his wife helped start. In addition, Steve was instrumental in bringing the National Audubon Society's new education center to South Mississippi.
