Twenty members of the legislature, including 13 in the House and seven in the Senate were named to the Honor Roll, which recognizes key members who led on education issues this year.
In the Senate, the members were: Senate President Pro Tempore Terry Burton, Senate Education Committee Chairman Gray Tollison, Senators Chris Caughman, Buck Clarke, Joey Fillingane, John Polk, and Michael Watson.
In the House, the members were: Speaker Philip Gunn, Speaker Pro Tempore Greg Snowden, House Education Committee Chairman John Moore, Representatives Toby Barker, Joel Bomgar, Randy Boyd, Charles Busby, Larry Byrd, Angela Cockerham, Carolyn Crawford, Dana Criswell, Deborah Dixon, and Brad Touchstone.

"This bill doesn't stop anyone from getting what they want from the state. I have a problem with the discrimination of Christian belief," said Republican state Rep. Randy Boyd, one of the bill's sponsors. "I don't uphold discrimination but I believe the Christian belief is more discriminated against than other things. ... I'm trying to get a happy medium here where people get their rights and other people aren't pressured into doing anything they don't believe in against their religious beliefs."

Randy Boyd was raised in Itawamba County. He has been married to the former Sherry Holland for 37 years. They have one daughter, Tara Boyd Enlow (married to Ryan Enlow) and Drew Boyd (deceased). Randy and Sherry have two grandchildren, Taryn Boyd (3) and Ian Enlow (2). Randy is a graduate of Tremont High School in Tremont, MS., Itawamba Community College, and Mississippi State Universary.
The Boyd’s are active members of the First Baptist Church of Mantachie. Randy teaches Sunday School and he has been a deacon for nearly 30 years. Randy has 30 years’ experience in the forestry industry. He’s a partner at the a small forestry business, LandTree, LLC, providing surveying, real estate, and forestry consulting services.
Randy is a graduate of Leadership Itawamba. He led efforts to preserve Itawamba County Schools and the Unit System of county government. He is a leader in his profession, community, and church.
