At the beginning of 2014, the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) raised concerns about the safety of Brandon's 50-year-old football field, namely the narrowness of the sidelines and the concrete walls. Since then, padding has been added to the walls and problems with erosion on the field have been remedied, though Executive Director Don Hinton noted in a January 2014 letter to the district those changes "do not resolve the inadequate space given to those on both sidelines ... who are vulnerable to physical contact with a participant or participants coming off the field of play."
