Cecil L. Simmons is a candidate for the Mississippi State Senate in District 15. This district includes all of Choctaw and Webster counties and parts of Oktibbeha and Montgomery counties. He haslived in the district all of his adult life. He is married to Sue Haley Simmons and they have lived in Maben-Mathiston area for over 40 years. She has practiced medicine in Maben for most of this time. They are the parents of four children. Our daughter Rebecca Simmons Henry is a teacher in Starkville. Their oldest son Lamar is a game biologist working for the state of Mississippi and younger sons, Haley and Kevin, are both graduate students.
Simmons was elected to the House of Representatives while in graduate school at MSU. He served 27 consecutive years, five years of this time as Speaker Pro Tem. He also served as the city attorney for the town of Maben for 12 years. He taught science and business law classes at Wood College and practiced law in Maben for 15 years. He and his family are members of the First Baptist Church of Maben where he serves as a deacon and trustee as well as serving on other committees.
Legislative priorities: funding education, rural healthcare especially our rural hospitals, economic and infrastructure development, protecting the rights of our senior citizens, and protecting the integrity of the public employees’ retirement systems.
