Incredibly and despite his very impressive credentials, the Senate Education Committee voted 8-7 against his confirmation. Republican senators who voted against him were Videt Carmichael, Briggs Hopson and Chris Massey. He rejection was called a “travesty” by Forest Thigpen of the Mississippi Center for Public Policy. I agree.
